I suppose that line, “guns hidden under our petticoats” is in reference to… a metaphor for our relationships with authority figures in our town. So “our petticoats” is kind of synonymous with the idea of the definition of the middle class - the upper-middle class. So “guns hidden under our petticoats” is a metaphor for the way that the police perceived the middle class youth in our town, as kind of a bit overbearing because they’re a bit bored… they’re treated like they’re thugs, [and] they’re silly.
